This was an excellent presentation that was not to be missed.

The presentation began by outlining some principles of kinaesthetic learning. Matt then gave examples from his own past experiences as a self-identified kinaesthetic learner and as a teacher of different age ranges and types of students. In the second half of the presentation, Matt had everyone on their feet as he demonstrated some techniques to incorporate more physical movement into the learning process. The presentation culminated with an example Maori lesson using kinaesthetic learning.

2014 May 17 | Cecilia Salzer | Teaching Phonics to English Language Learners

In May of 2014, Nagasaki JALT visited Nagasaki Junior College and were treated to a lecture by Cecilia "Sash" Salzer on the methodology for Teaching Phonics to ELLs (English Language Learners). The talk included extensive background on the presenter as well as some tips and ideas for introducing phonics to children.

This month we moved the venue from Nagasaki City up to Sasebo and Nagasaki International University for a presentation by Brendan Van Deusen. He took us through the concepts of using Extensive Reading and Task-based learning for the focus of this talk. The June 2013 Nagasaki JALT meeting was held in Sasebo City at the University of Nagasaki Sasebo Campus. Our speaker this month was Mr. Luc Roberge of Nagasaki Junior College and his lecture was on Foreign Language Anxiety and EFL Physical Education.

Luc presented his thesis/dissertation from his recently completed masters program at the University of Birmingham. The topic was a very challenging one since it deals with not only aspects of psychology and personality types, but also second language acquisition and the difficulties students face.
